Many people like to display a decorative urn in their homes, helping keep the remains of their loved one close by in a symbolic, elegant manner. A cloisonné urn is the perfect choice for an elegant, glamorous memorial cremation urn while memorializing the cremains of your loved one.

Technique

Cloisonné cremations urns are known for having a beautiful, intricate design, typically being made with rich colors and elegant patterns. This stunning design is created through the unique technique where a colored-glass paste is placed within wire partitions, usually made of copper or bronze. These wires are bent or hammered into the desired position, providing almost limitless possibilities for design and color.

After the partitions are filled in with the ceramic enamel, the urn is placed into a kiln, where it is able to harden, and strengthens into a durable work of art. After the enamel has set, the pieces are removed and sanded, showing off the elegant design. Due to its stunning appearance, this technique has been used since ancient times for jewelry, boxes, dinnerware, and vases, in addition to beautiful custom cremation urns.

History

The most well-known type of cloisonné comes from the Chinese, with the belief that it began during the Yuan Dynasty, which lasted from 1271-1368. From there, the technique spread to the Byzantine Empire and spread along the Silk Road. Early on, just a few colors were used, with the most well-known being turquoise, showing the bright and beautiful colors that often adorn cloisonné.

Having always been recognized as a glamorous design style, cloisonné was often used for temples or palaces, or for items that would reside in them. This included designs in the architecture, as well as vases. By the middle of the 1800s, cloisonné became much more popular in the United States, and was regularly imported from Asia.

Not just for use in only palaces and temples anymore, today the technique can commonly be found in items such as gifts, souvenirs, and jewelry such as earrings and bracelets. However, the technique really shines as cloisonné urns for cremation, where it is not mass produced, but carefully crafted with an artist’s eye for supreme design, elegance, and beauty.

Choosing the Right Cloisonné Urn

There is no easy way to choose the right cremation urn, especially because the item has great importance and significance. However, there are a few reasons why cloisonné urns are so beloved by man.

One major positive is that cloisonné urns are made from materials that are delicate, yet very tough and durable. Using porcelain as a base material with the metal wire protecting it, these urns are built to last for generations when they are properly cared for. It is easier to enjoy when you know that it is made from materials that are built to last.

The other reason that people choose cloisonné cremation urns is that they have a beauty and elegance that can surpass other designs and materials. Whether choosing a keepsake or small urn, or an adult cloisonné urn, the depth of color and design creates works of art that are befitting to hold the remains of a loved one.
